Question: Diencephalon is present in...

Diencephalon is present in

Explanation

Solution

The diencephalon is a part of the human brain and is known to be one of the main vesicles of the brain which is formed during the process of embryogenesis.

Complete answer:
The diencephalon is actually a division of the forebrain which is found in between the midbrain and the telencephalon. A neural tube is formed during the third week of development from the ectoderm which is one of germ layers that leads to the formation of three important vesicles- the rhombencephalon, the mesencephalon and the prosencephalon. From the prosencephalon the telencephalon and the diencephalon develop by division.

The diencephalon is known to comprise of different structures such as- the hypothalamus, the thalamus, the epithalamus (which in turn comprised of pineal body, posterior commissure, anterior and posterior paraventricular nuclei, stria medullaris thalami and median and habenular nuclei) and the subthalamus. Apart from these the optic nerve which is responsible for vision as well as sight also attaches to the diencephalon.

The diencephalon is known to be supplied by blood by blood vessels such as the thalamogeniculate branches belonging to the posterior cerebral artery as well as the thalamoperforating branches belonging to the posterior communicating artery.

Note: Each of the above mentioned parts of the diencephalon are known to carry out several important function such as the thalamus which recognizes external stimuli such as cold, heat, pain, etc., the hypothalamus that controls hearing and eye movement and the pineal gland which is an endocrine gland and is known to secrete melatonin as well as other polypeptide hormones
