Question
Chemistry Question on Law Of Chemical Equilibrium And Equilibrium Constant
Determine the solubilities of silver chromate, barium chromate, ferric hydroxide, lead chloride and mercurous iodide at 298K from their solubility product constants.Determine also the molarities of individual ions.
Answer
(1) Silver chromate:
Ag2CrO4→2Ag+ + CrO42-
Then, Ksp=[Ag+]2[CrO42-]
Let the solubility of Ag2CrO2 be s
[Ag+]22s and [CrO42-] = s
⇒ [Ag+]2s and [CrO42-] =s
Then,
Ksp=(2s)2.s=4s3
⇒ 1.1×10-12
.275×10-12=s3
S=0.65×10-4M
Molarity of Ag+= 2s = 2 × 0.65 × 10-4 = 1.30 × 10-4 M
