Question

Question: Describe the blood groups....

Describe the blood groups.

Explanation

Solution

In order to answer this question, we must first know what are the different types of blood groups . What is their classification and how are they classified? This will help you to describe the blood groups clearly.

Complete answer:
Blood has been widely classified as A, B, AB, and O. It is generally differentiated based on the types of antigens present on the surface of red blood cells and the corresponding antibodies present in the plasma. For blood group A, antigen A is present on the surface but it contains antibodies of type B. For blood group B, the antigen present on the blood surface is of type B and the antibodies present are of type A. In the case of type AB blood, the antigens of both type A and B are present. But no antibodies are present. For blood type O, they do not contain any antigens but they have antibodies of type A and B. However blood has also been extensively divided into Rhesus positive and Rhesus negative. It is a type of protein found on the surface of red blood cells and it is inherited from the parents. If we have the protein outside the red blood cells, it is Rh-positive blood. If it doesn't contain protein outside the blood cell, it is called Rh-negative.

Note: The blood group O is considered as the universal donor. However, the blood type AB can receive blood from all other groups but can donate only to type AB. The classification of blood groups is generally done on the basis of the antigens and the antibodies which are present on the surface of red blood cells.
