Describe make reproductive system of man. Draw a neat labelled diagram.
Solution
The male reproductive system consists of several organs located outside the body and around the male pelvis that play a role in the reproductive process. The main and important function of the male reproductive system is to provide sperm for fertilization of the egg. The male reproductive system consists of the scrotum, testicles, accessory ducts and glands, urethra, and penis.
Complete answer:
Male reproductive system Includes following structures:
Testis-The shape is oval, pink. The testicles are placed in a thin pocket of skin called the scrotum. Testicles is located outside the abdomen. This is due to the fact that for normal sperm production, the temperature in the testicles must be below body temperature. The rise in temperature kills sperm tissue. Testis is divided into compartments called testicular tubules which in in turn contains one to three highly coiled seminiferous tubules.
Vasa Efferentia: Vasa efferentia is a pair of duct structures arising from rete testis and extending up to epididymis.
Epididymis : The epididymis is connected with the vas deferens. It is a long wound tube located on the back of each testicle. The function of the epididymis is to store and transport sperm produced by the testicles.
Vas deferens: The vas deferens are the muscle ducts that extend from the scrotum from the groin and into the urethra, the tube that leads out of the bladder. The end of each vas deferens expands and forms an ejaculation duct that can contract and expel the stored sperm.
Male reproductive system
Penis: The penis is a muscular tubular organ made of loose tissue with spaces in between. This is called erectile tissue. When stimulated, the erectile tissue fills with blood, making the penis erect and tense, allowing it to penetrate the female vagina and discharge semen. The male external genitalia is represented by penis.
Accessory Sex Glands of Males :
Seminal vesicle: They are lined with pseudo-layered epithelium and are located near the ampullae of the vas deferens. This gives the spermatozoa alkalinity and viscosity. Contains fructose and prostaglandins. Fructose gives sperm the energy to swim, and prostaglandins stimulate vaginal contraction, which promotes reproductive fusion.
One pair of Cowper’s gland: The discharge of this gland lubricates the vagina to smooth out the movement of the penis during intercourse.
Prostate gland: It surrounds the proximal urethra. It is lobulated and large .These secretions contain lipids, bicarbonate ions, enzymes, and small amounts of citric acid.
Note: There is an opening between the abdomen and the scrotum called the inguinal duct. When the testicle is lowered into a pocket, it pulls nerves, blood vessels and a line along with it. The connective tissue, together with the Cremaster muscle, forms a spermatic cord.
Additional gonadal secretion, i.e. The prostate and mucus in the seminal vesicles combine with sperm to form semen and PH of this is alkaline.
Testis is primary male sex organ. It is attached with the scrotum by a thick fibrous tissue called gubernaculum.
