Describe a simple experiment to show that Air has mass.

Explanation

Solution

Hint : Mass and weight are two different things. Weight is the force by which earth pulls the body of an object downward or towards the gravitational centre and mass is the physical quantity or the fundamental property of matter.

Complete Step By Step Answer:
We can consider this example, we take two balloons. One of them is deflated, which means that there is no air blown inside it.
However, the other one is blown with air. Now for the setup, we will take a level balance. On one side of it we will place the blown balloon and on the other side, we will see the deflated balloon. We observe that the side with the inflated or the blown balloon tilts downwards. This proves it has mass.
Second experiment is to prove it has space: we will take a big beaker. In that we will fill liquid. We can take water. Now we will take a glass, and invert it inside the half-filled water containing the beaker. Now we will take a straw and blow in through the straw, such that the glass and the bottom of the beaker don't touch each other. There is space, and inverted glass is half dipped inside the water.

Note :
When the air is blown from the straw, the bubbles can be observed inside the beaker. What happened here is that the water level inside the inverted glass drops. This is because the space near the top is occupied by air. Hence it proves that air has mass.
