Question
Question: Define amplitude modulation in communication system....
Define amplitude modulation in communication system.
Solution
In every communication system, the communication is done by converting the signals to waveform. These waveforms have some frequency and have some intensity. Changing the frequency and the intensity is termed as amplitude modulation.
Complete step by step solution:
Amplitude modulation is the process when the wave signal is transmitted by modulating the amplitude of the signal. It is also called AM and is commonly used for transmitting the piece of information through a radio carrier wave. Amplitude modulation is mostly used in the form of electronic communication. Basically, it is a process in a communication system. For communication, we need some fundamental elements to communicate with each other. One is the high-frequency carrier wave and the other is the information which has to be transmitted i.e. input signal These are essential fundamental elements for communication which is done using a device from one place to another.
When the amplitude modulation is used, there is a variation in the amplitude of the carrier wave. Hence, the voltage or the power level of the information signal changes the amplitude of the carrier. In amplitude modulation, the carrier wave does not vary in amplitude. However, the modulating data is in the form of signal components consisting of frequencies either higher or lower than that of the carrier. The signal components are known as sidebands and the sideband power is responsible for the variations in the overall amplitude of the signal.
Note: Amplitude modulation is the simple way of modulating the signals. Production of the amplitude modulated signals is easy. The requirements are also feasible. When an amplitude modulated signal is created then the amplitude of the signal varies with respect to time.
