Question
Biology Question on Photosynthesis in higher plants
Cyclic-photophosphorylation results in the formation of
A
NADPH + H+
B
ATP and NADPH + H+
C
ADP
D
ATP
Answer
ATP
Explanation
Solution
In cyclic photophosphorylation, only PS−I takes part and the electrons released from the reaction centre P700 return to it after passing through series of carrier. It takes place in stromal lamellae o f the chloroplast which lack PSII and NADP reductase enzyme. The excited electron does not pass on to NADP+ but is cycled back to the PSI complex through electron transport chain. Hence, through the cyclic flow only the synthesis o f ATP takes place
