Question

Biology Question on Photosynthesis in higher plants

Cyclic-photophosphorylation results in the formation of

A

NADPH + H+^+

B

ATP and NADPH + H+^+

C

ADP

D

ATP

Answer

ATP

Explanation

Solution

In cyclic photophosphorylation, only PSIPS-I takes part and the electrons released from the reaction centre P700P_{700} return to it after passing through series of carrier. It takes place in stromal lamellae o f the chloroplast which lack PSIIPS II and NADPNADP reductase enzyme. The excited electron does not pass on to NADP+NADP^{+} but is cycled back to the PSIPS I complex through electron transport chain. Hence, through the cyclic flow only the synthesis o f ATPATP takes place
