Complete the following chemical reaction equation:
(i)PH3+HgCl2→
(ii) PCl3+H2O(excess)→
Solution
The chemical PH3 is called phosphine and it is weakly basic in nature. The compound HgCl2 is called mercuric chloride. Generally phosphine chemical is going to absorb on the surface of the metallic derivatives and forms M3P2 compound as the product.
Complete answer:
- In the question it is asked to complete the given chemical reactions.
- The first given chemical reaction is as follows.
PH3+HgCl2→
- We know that phosphine is going to form a compound by reacting with copper sulphate and forms a product like Cu3P2 .
- The chemical reaction of phosphine with copper sulphate is as follows.
2PH3+3CuSO4→Cu3P2+3H2SO4
- Now we can complete the given chemical reaction by taking the above chemical reaction as an example.
2PH3+3HgCl2→Mercuric phosphideHg3P2+6HCl
- In the above chemical reaction two moles of phosphine is going to react with 3 moles of mercuric chloride and forms one moles of mercuric phosphide and 6 moles of hydrochloric acid as the products.
- Coming to the given second chemical reaction.
PCl3+H2O(excess)→
- We know that phosphorus trichloride reacts with water and forms phosphorous acid as the product.
- The chemical reaction of phosphorus trichloride with water is as follows.
PCl3+3H2O→H3PO3+3HCl
- In the above chemical reaction one mole of phosphorus trichloride with 3 moles of water forms phosphorus acid and 3 moles of hydrochloric acid as the products.
Note:
In both the chemical reaction phosphorus derivative is going to react different chemicals and finally after the completion of the chemical reaction acids are commonly formed in both the Chemical reactions.
