ventricles of heart
ventricles of brain
arch of aorta
ventricles of heart
Solution
Chordae tendineae are found in ventricles of heart. They are commonly called as heart strings. Chordae tendineae are fibrous cords of connective tissue which connects the tricuspid valve and the mitral valve to the papillary muscles of the heart. These fibrous cords resembles tendon in appearance and are made up of about 80% collagen.
They prevent the cusps of the valves to swing back into the atrial chamber when they close with pressure. When the ventricles of the heart contract, blood pressure is increased in both the chambers that results in closing of AV valves. The closure of the valves prevent blood from flowing back into the atria. But the pressure in atria at this time is lower than the ventricles, so the flaps of the valves tends to turn into the low-pressure region. The chordae tendineae prevents this turning by holding them in the position.
