Mathematics Question on Equivalent Fractions

Check whether the given fractions are equivalent : (a) 59\frac{5}{9}, 3054\frac{30}{54} , (b) 310\frac{3}{10}, 1250\frac{12}{50} , (c) 713\frac{7}{13}, 511\frac{5}{11}

Answer

(a) 59\frac{5}{9}, 3054\frac{30}{54}

Dividing the fraction 3054\frac{30}{54} by 66\frac{6 }{ 6}, we get 3054÷66\frac{30 }{ 54} ÷ \frac{6 }{ 6}

= 59\frac{5 }{ 9}.

∴ Dividing both the numerator and denominator of 3054\frac{30}{54} by 66 simplifies it to 59\frac{5}{9}, demonstrating their equal representation.

(b) 310\frac{3}{10}, 1250\frac{12}{50}

Dividing the fraction 1250\frac{12}{50} by 22\frac{ 2 }{ 2}, we get

1250\frac{12}{50} ÷ 22\frac{ 2 }{ 2} = 625\frac{6 }{ 25}.

∴ Simplifying both 310\frac{3}{10} and 1250\frac{12}{50} reveals their true identities: 310\frac{3}{10} remains itself, while 1250\frac{12}{50} transforms into625\frac{6 }{ 25}.
This proves they aren't equal "fractions of wholes".

(c) 713\frac{7}{13} , 511\frac{5}{11}

The above fractions are already in their lowest terms.
∴ Analyzing their ratios through simplification, we discover that 713\frac{7}{13} and 511\frac{5}{11} hold distinct proportions.
Even when reduced to their irreducible forms, they represent different shares.
