Question
Biology Question on Eukaryotic Cells
Centromere is required for
A
transcription
B
crossing over
C
cytoplasmic cleavage
D
movement of chromosomes towards poles
Answer
movement of chromosomes towards poles
Explanation
Solution
Chromosomes are responsible for the transmission of the hereditary information from one generation to the next. The arms of chromosome is known as chromatids. These arms are held together at a point called the centromere (or primary constriction). Centromere occurs anywhere along the length of chromosome. During cell division spindle fibres are attached to centromere and help in the movement of chromosomes towards the poles.
