Question
Biology Question on biological classification
Cell wall is absent in
A
Mycoplasma
B
Nostoc
C
Aspergillus
D
Funaria
Answer
Mycoplasma
Explanation
Solution
Mycoplasma (Kingdom-Monera) are the simplest and smallest free living prokaryotes which are devoid of a cell wall. Their outermost boundary is aplasma membrane. This characteristic feature of mycoplasma make them resistant towards the antibiotics like penicillin or beta-lactam antibiotics that acts on cell wall synthesis.
The other three organisms contains cell wall:
- Nostoc is a cyanobacterium belonging to Kingdom Monera. It contains cell wall that comprises of peptidoglycans.
- Aspergillus belongs to Kingdom Fungi in which the cell wall is mainly made up of chitin.
- Funaria is a bryophyte belonging to Kingdom Plantae whose cell wall is cellulosic in nature.
