Bidder’s canal is present in
1. Female frog
2. Male frog
3. Female rabbit
4. Male rabbit
Solution
Hint:- Frog is an amphibian that inhibits the fresh water and the moist land. It is common in and around ditches, ponds, marshes, lakes and streams. Frog are solitary animals except during the breeding season.
Complete Answer:-
The reproductive system in the male frog is formed of the following parts:
- Testes- These are one pair of yellow-colored, oval-shaped structures present on the ventral side of outer margin of the anterior part of the kidneys. Each is suspended by a mesentery called mesorchium. Internally, each testis is formed of a large number of seminiferous tubules. Each forms the sperms by spermatogenesis.
- Vasa efferentia- These are 10-12 fine and ciliated tubules that collect the sperms from the seminiferous tubules, run inward and open in a longitudinal duct, called Bidder’s canal which is present inside the kidney along its inner border.
- Ureters- These are one pair of longitudinal ducts that are connected to Bidder’s canal by a number of transverse canals which receive urine from the uriniferous tubules. So ureters in male frogs act as urogenital canals. Each finally opens in cloaca.
So, Bidder’s canal is present in 2. Male frog.
Additional information:- The reproductive system of the female frog consists of a pair of large, flat, lobed, irregular ovaries. There are a pair of long oviducts that open anteriorly into the coelom by funnel-like apertures called the ostia and lead posteriorly into the cloaca. Their terminal regions enlarge and form uteri.
Note:-
- The ureters of the male frog act as urogenital canals as they carry both urine and sperms while the ureters of female frogs carry only urine.
- The fertilization in frogs is external and the development is also indirect as it includes a fish-like tadpole larva.
