Question

Mathematics Question on Tax

Arun bought a pair of skates at a sale where the discount given was 2020 %. If the amount he pays is RsRs 1,600,1,600, find the marked price.

Answer

Let the marked price be xx.
Discount  percent=DiscountMarked  price×100Discount\; percent = \frac{Discount}{Marked \;price} × 100

20=Discountx×10020= \frac{Discount}{x} × 100

Discount=20100×x=15xDiscount = \frac{20}{100} × x = \frac{1}{5} x
Also,
Discount=Marked  priceSale  priceDiscount = Marked \;price - Sale \;price
15x=xRs  1600\frac{1}{5}x = x- Rs \;1600

x15x=Rs  1600x-\frac{1}{5}x = Rs\; 1600

45x=Rs  1600\frac{4}{5}x = Rs \;1600

xx = RsRs (1600×54)=Rs  2000\bigg(1600 × \frac{5}{4}\bigg) = Rs\; 2000

Thus, the marked price was Rs  2000Rs\; 2000.
