Question
Biology Question on respiration in plants
Anaerobic respiration sometimes occurs in our skeletal muscles during strenous exercise. Pyruvic acid is reduced to lactic acid by lactate dehydrogenase in the absence of oxygen.
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion
If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion
If assertion is true but reason is false
If both assertion and reason are false
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion
Solution
In human body, anaerobic respiration occurs in our skeletal muscles during exercise. In muscles during strenuous exercise, when oxygen is inadequate for cellular respiration pyruvic acid is reduced to lactic acid by lactate dehydrogenase. The reducing agent is NADH+H+ which is reoxidised to NAD+.
