The idea of sustainable development came into being in 1987 when the industrial revolution started causing significant environmental issues. In 1968, Garret Hardin described a theory called the “tragedy of commons” which very well explained human behavior with respect to a limited available resource. It said that humans are capable of exhausting the natural resources for their personal interest and that it should be resolved by the inclusion of an authority that regulates its usage and distribution.
