myxophyceae
C
xanthophyceae
D
Laminaria
Answer
Laminaria
Explanation
Solution
The cell wall of brown algae is bilayered. The inner layer consists of cellulose, glucose and xylose as subunits. The outer layer is gelatinous and is composed of pectic substances. Certain colloidal substances like algin (alginic acid) and fucoidin is also present in certain algae like Laminaria, Sargassum etc. which help in water absorption. Alginic acid can stop bleeding and thus used as gauze in internal operation. It is also used as gelling agent in confectionary, dental creams etc.
