ADH acts via adenylate cyclase which opens channels in the tubules called aquapores, facilitating water absorption. ADH is screted by hypothalamus in response to osmotic (mainly determined by sodium) and non-osmotic (volume depletion, nausea, fear, anxiety, pain, exercise and drugs) stimuli.
