Biology Question on Organisms and their Environments
According to oparin, which one of the following was not present in the primitive atmosphere of the earth
A
Oxygen
B
Hydrogen
C
Water vapour
D
Methane
Answer
Oxygen
Explanation
Solution
In 1923, A.I. Oparin and, later in 1928, J.B.S. Haldane proposed the initial scientific explanation for the origin of life. According to their theory, the early Earth had a reducing atmosphere. This means that the abundant and highly reactive hydrogen atoms combined with all the available oxygen atoms to create water, effectively eliminating free oxygen. Consequently, there was no oxygen present in the primitive atmosphere of our planet.
