Mathematics Question on Area of a Triangle

∆ ABC is right angled at A (Fig 9.16). AD is perpendicular to BC. If AB = 55 cm, BC = 1313 cm and AC = 1212 cm, Find the area of ∆ ABC. Also find the length of AD.
Triangle ABC

Answer

Area=12×Base×HeightArea= \frac{1}{2}\times Base \times Height

=12×5×12=30  cm2=\frac{1}{2}\times 5\times 12=30\; cm^2

Also, area of triangle = 12×AD×BC\frac{1}{2}\times AD\times BC

30=12×AD×1330=\frac{1}{2}\times AD\times 13

30×213=AD\frac{30\times 2}{13}=AD

AD=4.6  cmAD=4.6\;cm
