A voltaic cell converts:
A) Electrical energy into chemical energy
B) Chemical energy into electrical energy
C) Light energy into electrical energy
D) Mechanical energy into electrical energy

Explanation

Solution

There are two types of cells one is electrolytic cell and galvanic cell which is known as a voltaic cell. In voltaic cells during chemical spontaneous redox reaction energy is released which is used by galvanic cells to produce electrical energy.

Complete answer:
Galvanic cells are named after the Italian physicist and physician Luigi Galvani (1737-1798). This type of cell is known as voltaic after Italian physicist Alessandro Volta (1745-1827). In voltaic cells, Gibbs energy of spontaneous redox reaction is used to convert in electrical work which may be used for running electrical gadgets, heater fan, etc.
This cell contains two types of electrodes. We can consider a combination of two half cells. Each half cell consists of an electrode dipped in the electrolyte. Two half cells are connected by a voltmeter. Electrolyte solutions are connected by a salt bridge. The half cell on which oxidation takes place is called the anode and it has negative potential to its electrolyte solution, on which reduction takes places called the cathode and it has positive potential. The potential difference across the two electrodes of a voltaic cell is known as cell potential and measured in volts.
ECell=Eright+ELeft{E_{Cell}} = {E_{right}} + {E_{Left}}
The electrons that are released at the anode flow through the wire to produce electrical energy.
And hence we can say that Voltaic cells convert chemical energy into electrical energy.

Note:
In this cell oxidation and reduction half-reaction occurs in different compartments and they are connected by a voltmeter. Between two-compartment, there should be electric neutrality. In the salt bridge, the ions are chosen differently so that they do not interfere with the electrochemical reaction. Commonly used ions are K+{K^ + } , NO3NO_3^ - , SO42SO_4^{2 - } .
