It is kept on two rails ABAB and CDCD which are placed asymmetrically (see figure), with its axis perpendicular to CDCD and its centre OO at the centre of line joining ABAB and CDCD (see figure). It is given a light push so that it starts rolling with its centre OO moving parallel to CDCD in the direction shown. As it moves, the roller will tend to :

Solution

If central line is at a distance rr from instantaneous axis of rotation, the rr is at lesser distance from point on left than on right. Since v=rωv = r \omega, the roller will turn to left.
