Question
Physics Question on Current electricity
A pure semiconductor has negative temperature coefficient of resistance. On raising the temperature, more charge carriers are released, conductance increases and resistance decreases.
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion
If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion
If assertion is true but reason is false
If both assertion and reason are false
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion
Solution
The resistance of semiconductor decreases with a rise in temperature because of negative temperature coefficient of resistance. The reason being, on raising the temperature, more charge carriers are released, conductance increases and resistance decreases. So, both assertion and reason are correct and reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.
