The fertilized zygote is then received by the uterus which is also known as the womb. It is the part of the reproductive system that provides support, protection and nutrition to the growing embryo. In the uterus, the zygote is implanted and establishes blood vessels to form connections to the endometrium lining of the uterus and it creates a placenta.
The zygote formed is a developing embryo and gets attached to the lining of the uterus. It receives two sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. After implantation, the zygote divides rapidly to form a mass of cell and is known as an embryo. It forms close connections with the internal vessels of the uterus and derives nourishment and oxygen from it. Finally, in the next two months the different body parts are developed and the embryo is now called the fetus.
