Question

Physics Question on work, energy and power

A motor pump lifts 66 tonnes of water from a well of depth 25m25\, m to the first floor of height 35m35\, m from the ground floor in 2020 minutes. The power of the pump (in kW) is [g=10ms2][g = 10\, ms^{-2}]

A

3

B

6

C

1.5

D

12

Answer

3

Explanation

Solution

Given.
Height of first floor (h)=35m(h)=35\, m
Time (t)=20m(t)=20 \,m
We know that.
Power, P= work  time P=\frac{\text { work }}{\text { time }}
P=mghtP =\frac{mgh}{t}
[ work =mgh][\because \text { work }= mgh ]
=600×10×(3525)20=\frac{600 \times 10 \times(35-25)}{20}
=600×10×1020=\frac{600 \times 10 \times 10}{20}
=60002=3000W=3kW=\frac{6000}{2}=3000\, W =3 \,kW
