A force acts on an object, while it is in the state of motion. If the force acting on it, is equal to the sum of all the resistances forces, then the object
A. stop after covering some distance
B. moves with uniform acceleration
C. moves with uniform velocity
D. moves with uniform retardation
Solution
In this question Newton’s first Law of motion applies and the concept of net force also applies.
Complete step by step answer:
Newton’s first law of motion: According to Newton’s law of motion, a body continues to move with same velocity unless an external net force applies. If the net force is zero, the acceleration produced is zero and the body moves uniformly.
Since here, Applied force=Resistance force and as both acts in opposite directions as shown in figure. So,
(F net=0)
It means no external force applies on the body. So, if the force acting on it is equal to sum of all the resistance forces, the Net force=0,
As F net = ma = 0
So, a= 0
Hence, if the net force is zero, the acceleration produced is zero and the body moves uniformly.
Thus the body continues to move with uniform velocity.
So, the correct answer is “Option C”.
Additional Information:
(i) Calculate the net force on the body.
(ii) If net force (F net)=0, then if it rests then rest and if it is moved then more.
Note:
Remember that although net forces acting on the body are zero , it doesn’t bring the body to rest . The body will just continue to be in the same state as before which here is motion.
