(a) Find out the position of the image of an object situated at A in the mirror.
(b) Can Paheli at B see this image?
(c) Can Boojho at C see this image?
(d) When Paheli moves from B to C, where does the image of A move?

Explanation

Solution

In this question we can see that there is a mirror so light coming from point A will reflect and after reflection it will go to B and C. We are going to solve this question by using a ray diagram of optics.

Complete step by step answer:
(a) To find the position of the image of an object situated at A we are going to draw a ray diagram. In this diagram we will find the position of image of the object situated at point A.
Ray diagram of image of object at point A
We can see from the diagram that the position of the image of the object situated at point A is A’.
(b) From the above diagram we can see that the reflected rays from point A reach at point B, so Paheli at point B can see this image of the object at point A.
(c) From the above diagram we can see that the reflected rays from point A reach at point C, so Boojho at point C can see this image of the object at point A.
(d) If Paheli at point B moves from B to C the image of object at point A will not move anywhere. The image of point A will remain at A’. when Paheli moves from point B it will appear to Paheli that the image of object at point A is moving in upward direction, but the actual image of object at point A will not move anywhere, it is fixed at point A’.

Note: In this type of question we have to be careful while drawing rays as we know that light rays travel in a straight line. To solve such questions we are supposed to know the laws of optics and laws of image formation by all kinds of mirrors.
