Mathematics Question on Probability

A factory has two machines AA and BB.Past record shows that machine AA produce 60%60\% of the item of output and machine BB produced 40%40\% of the items.Further,2%2\% of the items produced by machine AA and 1%1\% produced by machine BB were defective.All the items are put into one stockpile and then one item is chosen at random from this and is found to defective.What is the probability that it was produced by machine BB?

Answer

The correct answer is: 14\frac{1}{4}
Given P(A)=60100,P(B)=40100P(A)=\frac{60}{100},P(B)=\frac{40}{100}
Let D denotes a defective item:
P(DA)=2100andP(DA)=1100∴P(D|A)=\frac{2}{100}\, and\, P(D|A)=\frac{1}{100}
P(BD)=P(B)P(DB)P(A)P(DA)+P(B)P(DB)P(B|D)=\frac{P(B)P(D|B)}{P(A)P(D|A)+P(B)P(D|B)}
=40100×110060100×2100+40100×1100=\frac{\frac{40}{100}×\frac{1}{100}}{\frac{60}{100}×\frac{2}{100}+\frac{40}{100}×\frac{1}{100}}
=40120+40=\frac{40}{120+40}
=40160=\frac{40}{160}
=14=\frac{1}{4}
