Mathematics Question on Event

A die is rolled. Let EE be the event “die shows 44” and FF be the event “die shows even number”. Are EE and FF mutually exclusive?

Answer

When a die is rolled, the sample space is given by
S=1,2,3,4,5,6S = \\{1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6\\}
Accordingly, E=4E = {4} and F=2,4,6F = \\{2, 4, 6\\}.

It is observed that EF=4ΦE ∩ F = {4} ≠Φ
Therefore, EE and FF are not mutually exclusive events.
