Question

Mathematics Question on Time Speed and Distance

A booster pump can be used for filling as-well-as for emptying a tank. The capacity of the tank to 2400 m3. The emptying capacity of the tank i8 10 m3 per min higher than its filling capacity and the pump needs 8 min lesser to empty the tank than it needs to fill it.What is the filling capacity of the pump?

A

60m3 /min

B

50m3 /min

C

72m3. /min

D

None of these

Answer

50m3 /min

Explanation

Solution

Let, the filling capacity of the pump be xm3min\frac{xm^3}{min}

Then, emptying capacity of the pump =(x+10)m3min=\frac{(x+10)m^3}{min}

So, 2400x2400(x+10)=8\frac{2400}{x}-\frac{2400}{(x+10)}=8

On solving, we get

x =50m3min=\frac{50m^3}{min}
So the correct option is (B)
