Question
Physics Question on Motion in a straight line
A body travelling along a straight line traverse one-third the distance with a velocity of 5m/s . The remaining part of the distance was covered with velocity 3m/s for half the time and with velocity 2m/s for the other half of the time. The average velocity of the body over the whole time of motion will be
A
3m/s
B
5m/s
C
2m/s
D
2.5m/s
Answer
5m/s
Explanation
Solution
Time taken in the one third part of total distance coverd is t1 and for remaining part is 2t2
t1=5x/3=15x
x1+x2=32x
3t2+2t2=32x
5t2=32x
t2=152x
Total time =t1+2t2
=15x+152x
t=153x=5x
Average velocity
v=5xx
v=5m/s
