A and B are dealers of a bike company. The price of a bike is Rs.28,000. A Gives a discount of 10% on the whole, while B gives a discount of 12% on the first Rs.20,000 and 8% on the rest Rs.8000. What is the difference between their selling prices?
Solution
Hint: The cost price of a bike is given. To find the difference between selling prices of both the dealers, first calculate the selling price of a bike by individual dealer after discount they offered. Selling price of a bike is calculated by reducing the discount amount from the cost price(i.e. SP=CP-discount). Then, calculate the difference. The selling price is the price at which an article is sold.
Complete step by step answer:
We have given that the cost price of a bike Rs.28,000
We know that the cost price is the amount paid to purchase an article from the dealer.
Here, we have given that A gives a discount of 10% on the cost price.
We know that discount is the reduction in the price offered on the cost price.
So, discount given by A=10010×28000=2800
Selling price=cost price-discount
So, the Selling price of bike by dealer A=28000−2800=Rs.25,200
Now, we have given that B gives a discount of 12% on Rs.20,000 and 8% on Rs.8000
So, the total discount offered by the dealer B will be
=10012×20000+1008×8000=12×200+640=3040
So, the selling price of bike by dealer B=28000−3040=Rs.24,960
Now, the difference between their selling prices =25200−24960=Rs.240
Note: Students must know about the basic concepts i.e. about cost price, selling price and discount. First calculate the discount that dealers offered and then, compare the selling prices. Here the cost price of the bike is the same but the discount offered by the both dealers is different. So, the selling price will be different.
