Question

Chemistry Question on Atomic Models

2 ×108 atoms of carbon are arranged side by side. Calculate the radius of the carbon atom if the length of this arrangement is 2.4 cm.

Answer

Length of the given arrangement = 2.4 cm
Number of carbon atoms present = 2 × 108
∴ Diameter of carbon atom = 2.4×102m2×108\frac{2.4\times 10^{-2}m}{2\times10^8}
= 1.2 × 10-10 m
∴ Radius of carbon atom = Diameter2\frac{Diameter}{2} = 1.2×1010m2\frac{1.2\times10^{-10}m}{2}
= 6.0 × 10-11 m
