1.State the roles of liver and pancreas
2.Name the organ which performs the following functions in humans:
a)Absorption of digested food.
b)Absorption of water

Explanation

Solution

The body of the living organism is needed to perform many different complex processes and it is brought about by the presence and coordination of several simple and complex organ structures. In higher animals such as mammals, different organ systems are needed to perform specific and complex biological processes.

Complete answer:
Now let us find answer to solution:
(i) The role of liver : In mammals, different functions for instance digestion, absorption, movement, excretion and reproductive processes are performed by some specialised organs that constitute the organ system. All-important biological functions are placed out in a coordinated system.

The liver is an organ that is located in the vertebrates and it is associated with biochemical processes that are needed for digestion, detoxification of various metabolites and synthesis of certain proteins. The important functions that are performed by the liver are in the regulation of glycogen storage, decomposition of the RBC as well as production of hormones and in the breakdown of fat.

The role of pancreas : Pancreas are defined as organs that are connected with the digestive as well as the endocrine system of the vertebrate organisms. It performs the role as an exocrine gland when associated with the digestive system as it secrets pancreatic fluids known as pancreatic juices through the pancreatic duct into the duodenum. The pancreatic juice plays a role as an acid neutralizer and also works to digest and breaks down fats, proteins as well as carbohydrates.

(ii) (a) Absorption of digested food : The process with the help of which digested food molecules are absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to different parts of the body is termed as absorption. The absorption of food usually starts with the small intestine. The digested food molecules travel through the walls of the small intestine and then into the bloodstream.
(b) Absorption of water : Water is absorbed in the initial segments of small intestine

Note: The Glisson capsule is located as a covering or sheath like structure that is used to cover the two lobes of the liver. It is composed of fibrous and connective tissues. It also encloses the hepatic artery; portal veins and the bile ducts present within the Liver.
